What is the definition of "Assault Rifle"?

A) a military rifle capable of both automatic and semiautomatic fire, utilizing an intermediate-power cartridge.
or
B) a nonmilitary weapon modeled on the military assault rifle, usually modified to allow only semiautomatic fire.
Now even better, what is the definition of "Assault"?
Well, in verb form, it means,
to make an assault upon; attack; assail.
What is the need for an Assault weapon other than the need to kill or attack? Nothing. Sure, you might say that it can be used for self defense, but surely a pistol, or rifle would do you just as good.
Make president Barack Obama remove the right to hold Assault Weapons, but endorse the right to hold pistols and rifles.
