Since April of last year, violence has broken out across Burundi. Those supposed to protect Burundian civilians have become politicized, resulting in brutal deaths. Over 400 people have died and 200,000 have fled to neighboring countries. Some are calling this the beginning of a genocide.
President Obama has already addressed Burundians on the issue, pleading that the violence ends (- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FToWhIRAM34). This petition calls that the crisis becomes an urgent diplomatic priority for the White House.
Let us not let happen to Burundi what happened to Rwanda. Let us not turn away and let history repeat itself. It is no longer 1994, it is 2016. Let this be the year that we act.
