We the people ask the federal government to Call on Congress to act on an issue:

Make price gouging on lifesaving drugs a criminal offense

Created by R.M. on August 25, 2016

Recently, there have been several high profile cases where drug companies have increased prices on life saving drugs to levels multiple times what it costs them to manufacturer the drug, even taking R&D costs in to account. While the signers of this petition support the right of a company to make a profit and reward the effort and risk that goes in to making a drug, there is a level at which this behavior becomes morally wrong and puts people's lives at risk. Additionally, such behavior leads to higher insurance premiums, putting a burden on federal spending, increasing individual costs, and decreasing access to quality health care. As overpriced drugs harm the people of the United States, the government should address this by making such behavior a criminal offense.
