Professional athletics provide an opportunity to raise a lot of money which can be used to fund educational infrastructure and opportunities. Currently, the salaries of athletes and coaches could fund numerous research and humanitarian projects that sit on the shelves of our institutions, or remain confined to the dreams of our brightest minds, because there is no money. Let's stop concentrating wealth, and the opportunities of our future, in the hands of those who entertain us; rather, let that which nourishes our hunger for competition, and inspires camaraderie, be that which also nourishes the hunger of our poor, and inspires decency and innovation.
