Make psychological and mental background screening a mandatory part of legally purchasing any firearm.

Created by T.P. on December 14, 2012

In view of recent acts of domestic violence involving firearms in public places, most recently the Connecticut shooting, it is apparent that current criminal screenings are not enough to stop the wrong people from acquiring firearms. A logical solution would be to screen not just criminal history, but past emotional and mental issues as well. Previous firearms incidents involving mass shootings have shown the perpetrators to be emotionally or mentally unstable.

The system only requires a criminal history check, so it is entirely possible for someone who is imbalanced, such as the Aurora shooter, to purchase weapons and ammo legally. This oversight must be corrected.
