It takes years, money, and most of all emotional energy to go through all the hoops to qualify for social security disability.
After that, the student loan administration ignores the qualification, follows different rules, and would require another gigantic battle to dismiss the loans because of disability.
So now I, and I'm sure many many others, am in a deep dark hole too tired to crawl out of. For example, I haven't been able to work for ten years, meanwhile the total of my loans just sits there getting huger and huger. I haven't ever defaulted, but I have zero chance of ever repaying this debt, which is now many TIMES the amount I actually borrowed.
There are many law-abiding Americans in this same situation. It is beyond frustrating. Please correct the rules.
