The basic human rights of women in the US are under attack. Between 2010 and 2012 state and federal legislators have made light of rape, attacked access to contraceptives and abortion, forced women to undergo unnecessary procedures or carry dead fetuses, and otherwise endangered the lives of their female constituents. Our Constitution does not protect women from these abuses. Our Founders did not see women as equal human beings. But the world has changed. It is time to change our Constitution to reflect that women are equal in the eyes of the law.
Only three more states--AL AZ AR FL GA IL LA MS MO NV NC OK SC UT or VA--need to ratify the ERA for it to become law. We ask you to make ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment a core goal of your presidency. It is feasible, and it is needed.
