Make a rational and comprehensive response to the problem of violence in our country.

Created by S.S. on January 08, 2013

What is needed to combat violence today is a mixture of early detection of mental issues, tougher sentencing/penalties for violent crimes and violations of existing firearms regulations.

We must first address mental health; the mentally ill suffer due to family being restricted from finding help. While changes to committal rules were well meant, they were not a one size fits all solution, as we still have many who sadly need to be committed involuntarily.

Second, make violent crime and firearm crime more costly for criminals, institute stricter sentencing for crimes involving firearms and those who steal firearms.

Finally, stiffer penalties for those who sell or buy guns illegally, falsify documents and sellers who skip background checks. Therebye, lessening impact on honest gun owners.
