Everyone, including the NRA, agrees that owners of firearms have a responsibility to keep their guns in a safe location. If their gun is used in a crime the registered owner should be responsible for compensating the victims of the crime. Homeowners and renters insurance should be required to cover this liability. In the case of suicide then a payment should be made in kind to a mental health fund.
