The salaries for the all 3 branches of government was recently raised. The CBO states this increase will cost $11B over the next 10 years.
In the face of a budget crisis, severe gridlock in the legislative branch of government, and what is an incentive for the legislative branch to become career politicians, I propose that the pay rates be adjusted to a more reasonable level that would promote real reform and meaningful policies. I propose that the pay rate for the branches of government be tied to a the average pay of the American worker not to exceed 150% of this average pay. I further propose that, for the purposes of this average, that people receiving unemployment benefits have their unemployment benefits counted as their pay, thus providing incentive to create good paying jobs.
