Make self-driving vehicles a national priority.

Autonomous vehicles (self-driving cars, trucks, and buses) will transform America's transportation system without building even a single road. This new generation of vehicles will utilize existing infrastructure much more efficiently with the potential to eliminate all car accidents and traffic jams. This could save over 30,000 lives and prevent more than two million vehicle-related injuries every year in the United States. Many nations around the world are currently funding this technology and will not wait for the United States to "pave the way" for transportation technology that meets the needs of the 21st century. To keep America competitive globally while prosperous and safe domestically, the administration of President Obama must make autonomous vehicles a national priority.
