September 11th should be a National Day of Service to honor the sacrifice and service of our countrymen on that terrible day. Giving back to our Nation will both heal us and honor the memory of those that lost their lives.
Who among us does not recall the many acts of kindness we saw on that terrible day. Strangers helping strangers, blood banks with lines around the block, firefighters running towards the falling towers, the outpouring of donations, and other simpler kindnesses. By making September 11th a National Day of Service, each of us can honor the best of us and the ultimate sacrifice too many made that day.
