This day should be to honor the civilians that have died both as rescue workers and as innocents. This should be a day of reflection for all wars and terrorist acts past and present so that we may all remember what these acts bring and be smarter about our choices in the future.
On September 11th, 2001 over 3,000 people were killed during the attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C., including more than 400 police officers and firefighters. However, people have not only died in the US, but all over the world due to war and terrorism. According to https://www.iraqbodycount.org/ an estimated 129,000-144,000 civilians have been killed in violent conflict, the news reports nearly 10-50 people a day killed in Syria, and civilians are killed in other conflicts such as Gaza and Ukraine.
