September 8 2016 will mark the 50th anniversary of Star Trek’s first airing on television. We hereby petition to make September 8 the official Star Trek Day.
Why bestow such recognition unto Star Trek?
Star Trek is much more than just a television show. For 50 years, Star Trek has inspired children, parents, engineers, scientists and entrepreneurs. It has spurred countless real-world innovations. It gave a name to a Space Shuttle (the Enterprise).
Star Trek is a uniquely American cultural icon. By envisioning a world where technology and science would truly improve the human condition, Star Trek promoted tolerance, peace, cooperation and democracy.
It is time to officially recognize Star Trek's many gifts to the America and to the world.
