Make Sexual Education and HIV/AIDS Education mandatory in Public High Schools

Created by K.H. on April 14, 2016

What I am proposing is that not only should sexual education and HIV/AIDS instruction be mandatory in public schools, but that the information provided be accurate.

As of March this year only 24 states and the District of Columbia require public schools teach sex education and only 33 require students receive instruction about HIV/AIDS (21 of which mandate both sex ed and HIV/AIDS be taught). But only 20 states require that if provided, sex and/or HIV education must be medically, factually or technically accurate.

School is supposed to help prepare people for the future. Its supposed to provide knowledge and skills to help us better ourselves and our children. So why aren't we teaching about something that has and will continue to affect us all?
