An educated electorate is imperative for a free country. Our electorate is being lied to on a daily basis by Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, et al. The only way to stop this is to expand the law against slander and libel to public figures. Canada will not even allow Fox News to be broadcast within their border. "On February 14, a Florida Appeals court ruled there is absolutely nothing illegal about lying, concealing or distorting information by a major press organization. The court reversed the $425,000 jury verdict in favor of journalist Jane Akre who charged she was pressured by Fox Television management and lawyers to air what she knew and documented to be false information." Extending this law would also prevent politicians from telling blatant lies in campaign commercials.
