Make Social Security cards out of thicker, more durable stock, or laminate them to prevent easy damage.

The Social Security Card is a document that each citizen must keep track of their entire life. It is often required to start a new job, begin a financial arrangement, or a host of other practical functions that happen several times in most peoples' lives. We propose that the card itself be made of a more durable material to prevent wear and tear on the card, and to reduce the number of replacements ordered every year. One possible proposal would be the material that they use in the cover of the current U.S. Passport, cut down to credit-card size. Since the supply clearly already exists, a new material would not need to be found, and the holographic overlays would be aesthetically pleasing and add an extra layer of document security.
