make state bar dues for attorneys deductible from federal income tax.

Created by T.N. on June 06, 2013

Attorneys are required to pay annual bar dues. The funds go to run the state bar organization which ensures that attorneys are admitted to their jurisdiction only if certain requirements are met, maintain the integrity of the state bar, and to fund pro bono legal representation. These bar dues range from $200 to over $400 per year per jurisdiction. A tax deduction would be helpful to all attorneys especially those with positions which do not cover or reimburse bar dues.
