Make a statement regarding anti-gay laws being passed in Russia and explain what the United States plans to do about it.

Created by C.B. on July 24, 2013

Russia has embarked on a discriminating journey to destroy the rights of the LGBT community. Recently, a law was signed by Vladimir Putin which prevents children who are born in Russia to be adopted by a gay couple. Even more so, it prevents children from being adopted into any country where any kind of marriage equality exists at all. It is also currently illegal to display any form of gay-activism; this includes holding hands, kissing, or even simply talking about it.

What does the President and members of the White House think of the persecution going on of LGBT people in Russia? What of the obligations that Russia is supposed to uphold regarding freedom of assembly and expression? What action, if any, does the President plan to take to defend the LGBT community in Russia?
