Make stipends for Graduate Students Tax Exempt

Created by J.S. on October 13, 2011

As our economy faces a critical time and unemployment is still high, it is clear that a strong education is the key to training new scientists and inventors who will bring about the new technologies to create jobs and lead the US into the 21st century. One of the key reasons people do not attend college, and especially graduate school, is the high cost associated with these programs. Graduate students perform countless hours of work in the lab and play a crucial role in any strong university. The small stipend they get to live on represents pay well below minimum wage when it is factored in how many hours they work. Since graduate students are the promising youth of our future, please ease the burden on them by making their pay tax exempt. It is the right thing to do.
