Student loan debt since 1999 has increased by average 500 percent. Total outstanding student loan debt, by some counts, exceeded $1 trillion last year.
Higher education prices have soared while middle class wages are on the decline, leaving the middle class burdened with large private student loans and little to no recourse if hardship occurs.
Important to note: It is a central belief of modern U.S. bankruptcy law that the honest but unfortunate debtor has a right to bankruptcy's fresh start. For some reason this same principle that applies to companies and other debtors does not apply to students and their loans.
That is why we the people petition the government to return students Constitutional Right to file for bankruptcy protection.
