Many people in this country choose to earn a college degree in order to achieve a better lifestyle and have a greater income. To earn these degrees many students rely on funding from federal loans. The loans obtained by the United States government have a considerably higher interest rate than those offered by other western countries for their citizens. It is time for the United States government to stop punishing citizens that wish to further their education. As long as the loans are being paid, they should be low to no interest. The government will make their money back when the person who attended college subsequently pays more taxes because they earn more money.
