It took more than a generation for the medical community to implement hand washing before surgery, and it was not fully embraced until long after Ignaz Philipp Semmelweis (1818-1865), its creator, had died at the hands of guards in a Viennese insane asylum.
Today, doctors are handcuffed by Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) written by agents of treatment manufacturers. For example, the CPG for diabetes is written by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and its diet consists of 45%-55% carbohydrates. That for a disease characterized by a patient’s relative inability to process carbohydrates. The ADA receives significant funding from insulin and other pharmaceutical manufacturers.
Please mandate that all CPGs be authored by qualified people without any real or perceived bias.
