Tire pressure monitoring systems are a costly and misguided "fix" for some poorly manufactured tires from years back. This mandate costs consumers hundreds of dollars and often the TPMS fails miserably. They cause alarm when there is no problem present, causing the driver to have someone check the tires (at a cost), have the car serviced (at a cost) or ignore the warning, which just defeats the purpose. Living in the NE, the climate can vary by 70+ degrees in one day. This affects the pressure in a tire, causing false readings. The TPMS can come on daily, even though the pressure within a tire is fine. People should have a choice as to whether or not they want to purchase these. This federal mandate is not needed or welcome, and it costs the consumer money that we do not have.
