The TSA has been ordered by an appeals court to hold hearings on the dangerous and useless millimeter wave or "backscatter" scanners in use at airports across the nation. However, the TSA is acting "above the law" in this regard and ignoring both the court order and public opinion.
The health and safety risks of these scanners have not been appropriately evaluated and they've proven to be useless against those who wish to smuggle arms aboard aircraft. More info is available via Wired:
