In 1784 Ben Franklin lamented the bald eagle as the choice for the symbol of America. He preferred the turkey, stating "For the Truth the Turkey is in Comparison a much more respectable Bird, and withal a true original Native of America."
We, the people, demand that the Turkey be finally brought to it's rightful place as the symbol of our great nation! Let us right this wrong that occurred 228 years ago!
The proud, majestic turkey more closely demonstrates the American ideal. When attacked, it does not turn and run, it takes on opponents twice its size.
Besides, it's delicious deep fried and makes an excellent gravy. Can the lousy Bald Eagle say that?
In lieu of the turkey, we the people will also accept making bacon the symbol of our nation. In fact, that may be a better idea.
