It's very easy to see we don't live in a meritocracy, but making are government more like one is easy and combines both democratic and republican ideals.
1. Make a flat tax
2. Skyrocket the death/inheritance tax to 90% and put it towards schools and public works.
This helps level the playing field for those who aren't born rich, but it lets those who work hard and become rich by their own merit keep their money.
