This petition is in response to several memos and actions taken by the U.S. government, most recently the DoJ white paper that can be found here:

The United States, in providing citizenship, guarantees that it will treat all citizens equally, and that all citizens are guaranteed due process. Actions against U.S. citizens suspected of terrorist activities MUST STILL follow due process of law, regardless of whether those citizens are located within or outside of the United States.
Due process may lead to charges of guilt, including and up to treason, of course. However, the U.S. government cannot, and should not, ever treat its citizens as foreign combatants.
