We the people ask the federal government to Call on Congress to act on an issue:

Make the upcoming (2016) general election a federal holiday.

Created by C.R. on June 08, 2016

In order to make it possible for every eligible American citizen to vote in this country, Election Day should be declared a national holiday similar to Presidents Day or Martin Luther King Day.

If Election Day is a national holiday then the electorate will be able to easily participate in their civic duty to vote. The more people vote, the more our representatives in Congress reflect the will of all of the people and not of a select few.

Declaring Election Day a national holiday will improve civic discourse and allow the electorate to educate themselves on the issues and make their voice heard. It will vastly improve our democracy.

congress must act to make a new holiday permanently , but the president can declare a one time holiday by means of executive order, as Bush did in 2004.
