make using the Chargemaster for billing purposes illegal for hospitals.

So called non-profit hospitals use a list of prices called the Chargemaster to bill people for their stays. These costs are arbitrary and capricious and not one hospital spokesperson could explain how it came to be other than to say the prices are increased every year by some unknown factor. It is infuriating that these non-profit hospital are raking in millions, if not billions, of dollars each year overcharging people with no insurance or not very good insurance. One person in the Time story fell down and had a $9418 bill for a six hour visit to the ER. She was charged $6,538 for three CT scans that Medicare would be billed $825 for. This is absolute robbery and it must stop.
