Diseases such as polio and measles have all but been eradicated in the United States thanks to vaccines. The recent movement, based on non-scientific thought, to opt out of vaccinations, puts the our health system, children and national security at risk. Vaccines have been proven to be safe with robust protection against their specific disease. Therefore, they should be considered mandatory except in cases of comprised immunity. Furthermore, any doctor who specifically recommends against vaccination is in violation of their Hippocratic oath, not only to their patients, but to to the general population.
