Make volunteering more affordable by raising the per mile rate for charitable mileage tax deductions.

We urge The Obama Administration to work with Congress to change the Charitable Mileage Rate from $0.14/mile to a higher rate more in line with today's current transportation costs. Alternatively, we urge the Administration to work toward legislation that allows the IRS to set the rate as it does the business and medical/moving rates. This would allow those who spend time volunteering to recoup some of the cost of their support of volunteer organizations. The current rate has not changed since 1997. Unlike the business, and medical/moving rates, the charitable rate may only be changed through the legislative process.
