The right of citizens to vote in free and fair elections is the cornerstone of our American democracy. This basic of all Constitutional rights and civil liberties is today being undermined and threatened by new laws and rules that make registering to vote and casting a vote difficult for many citizens. These new laws, from requiring Photo IDs to restricting early voting, have led to many voters being disenfranchised and to long lines and waits at many polling places that discourage rather than encourage citizen participation in our electoral system. Online voter registration and online voting, as demonstrated by this very website, is not only technologically feasible but highly practical. Secure online voting can be facilitated just like the SSA and IRS computerized systems work today.
