OPEC was once king in the control of crude oil production and times have changed. With the US's explosive growth of oil production due to new extraction methods, decrease in consumption and ability to refine those products, it has become increasingly obvious OPEC is losing it's stranglehold on world supply. While OPEC does provide a majority of oil supply, if the US government formed an organization with other North American, South American, European and other Western countries formed a group to break OPEC's monopoly we could have better control over local international politics and national spending not reliant on Eastern policies. It's plain, fair capitalism and every major distributer needs a competitor to ensure balance. No monopoly should be able to exist on the world market.
