making voting in the United States compulsory, and subject eligible voters who do not vote to fines or community service

The sheer number of eligible voters in the Unites States who do not vote is shameful. Some may say that if they don't care enough to study the issues and vote, who needs them? I say if you aren't going to vote, don't complain! There is a precedent for compulsory voting, and I think fining eligible voters who don't vote, or making them do 100 hours of community service, is a great idea.
