Mandate that an account fully created online shall be cancellable fully online without a need to call for 'assistance'

Created by G.G. on February 17, 2015

It is currently possible to create any number of accounts online via the internet without any human intervention. However, when a consumer desires to cancel the account or service, they are often required to call, or email to request the cancellation.

The reason given is that the company needs to confirm the cancellation which is strange considering no such validation or process existed to create the account.

This creates an undo burden upon the consumer and often results in additional billing, delayed account cancellation, and wasted time resulting from the need to call or write in order to request the cancellation.

It seems wholly reasonable that any account created without a need for human interaction should provide a similar mechanism by which a consumer may cancel.
