Carbon Fiber is an extremely strong and super lightweight material.
Using Carbon Fiber in cars - in chasis and body panels - will significantly reduce vehicle weight thereby greatly reducing the need for fuel consumption.
In electric cars this will have the benefit of greatly extending driving range.
While this would be a major shift for the industrial base the potential benefits are significant and worth study:
- reduced fuel dependency and impact on fuel producing infrastructure
- lower CO2 emissions
- new industrial sector and new jobs
- US leadership in manufacturing
Consider the Boeing 787, on which the global airline industry has pinned its hopes for controlling fuel costs. Boeing's leadership points to a roadmap for all transportation manufacturers.
