Mandate ALL governmental officials to take a pay cut, until the US's debit is paid off

Everyone needs money, and I believe that how much the government gets paid IS a huge contributing factor to our nations debit. I'm not just talking about current officials, I am talking about retired ones too, because they receive just as much as they did when they were in office.
I believe that ALL GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS should take a 1/4-1/2 pay cut to help pay off the US's debit.
