Live-virus vaccines have the potential to shed for up to a month after receiving the vaccine. These vaccines include Flu, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Rotavirus, Polio, and Smallpox. This also includes the inactivated bacterial vaccine Pertussis. This can be dangerous for otherwise healthy children, and deadly for immunocompromised children. I petition that all parents must notify their child’s school when their child receives any of the vaccines listed above. The school must then notify parents of children in the same class as the vaccinated child. Furthermore, the school must also notify parents of any vaccine preventable outbreaks, and list if the exposed strain is a vaccine strain or a wild strain. This notice should also include if a vaccinated child initiated the exposure.
