Mandate All States to Have Safe Nurse to Patient Ratios in Hospitals and Long Term Care Facilities

Created by Y.B. on January 18, 2015

Nurses across the United States have unsafe work environments due to under-hiring by hospitals and long term care facilities. My colleagues will tell you that there is no nursing shortage and if you can’t convince the nurses at the bedside, you may have to reassess your sources. The hiring shortage leaves many new graduate nurses without a job months after graduation. Experienced nurses have been driven away from the bedside because of the shift from patient to business focused healthcare. Nurses often do not have time to take breaks required by law because patient care will suffer if they leave the bedside for even half an hour. The current state of healthcare is unfair to our patients and their families who depend on us to provide high quality care that promotes healthy living.
