The polarizing nature of politics has ground our government to a halt. The Us Vs. Them mentality precludes compromise, restricts voting to blocs along party lines, and forces voters to choose the lesser of two evils. If a third party candidate has achieved enough support to qualify for federal campaign funding, they should also be allowed to participate in the public and open forum that the presidential debates are supposed to be. Excluding third party candidates from this conversation actively discredits and marginalizes them. One of the few things that democrats and republicans have been able to agree upon is the exclusion of candidates who have the temerity to develop opinions that don't perfectly align with party platforms.
