For years now, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) has refused admittance to any individual that identifies at atheist, agnostic, or queer.
In the past, the BSA has defended these policies by claiming to be a private organization. However, in truth, the BSA is a decidedly public organization, especially when considering the $10 million annual funding to the BSA from the federal government, support by local governments, and recognition from the US Military as a paramilitary organization.
It is because of their status as a public organization, as well as our abhorrence for discrimination in a modern society that we, the undersigned, petition the Obama administration to mandate that the BSA end their discriminatory policies, or give up their funding and relationship with the federal government.
