Mandate compliance with UN global vehicle safety and emissions standards and reduce the DOT/EPA auto import exemption.

Created by H.B. on December 09, 2012

Mandate automaker compliance with the United Nations World Forum For Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations standards that have already been accepted by nearly every other developed country. They are more advanced and stringent than the current Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards; however, the additional cost to automakers would be negligible, and in some cases it would save automakers money because they will no longer have to make different versions for the US market and the international market.

Additionally, remove the ban on the importation of grey-market vehicles, or at the very least, reduce the time from 25 years to 15 years after the date of manufacture, similar to Canadian regulations.
