Voter participation is at a low, but part of the struggle is that people have to work on Election Day and those who work service, hourly and other jobs can be kept away from the polls. This situation doesn't help anyone.
Mandating Election Day as a national holiday, including increased funding to states to keep polls open longer and in more places; shortened working hours for those in the service sector (as we do on Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.) would enable people to go to the polls, but also handle increased participation.
It is the simplest, best thing we can do to strengthen our democracy. Let's get it done.
