Mandate Equal Time to Instruction of Evolution for Faith-Based Schools Receiving Tax Rebates or Other Public Assistance

Created by J.S. on November 26, 2013

The demand from many Americans to keep " 'theories' out of the classroom" indicates an insufficiency in scientific literacy. As some call for equal time for the teaching of creationism, educated citizens yearn for sufficient time in science curriculum for academically-defensible laws and theories. Our children must be shown that scientific theory is not the same as hypothesis or mere hunch, and that Darwin's Theory of Evolution is a peer-reviewed, albeit not exclusive, scientific *model* for explaining the *fact* of evolution just as the Gravitation *Theory* is our best model for explaining the *fact* of gravity. This simple distinction seems lost on many adults in the debate, and children in religious or faith-based schools are at an even greater risk for illiteracy.
