MANDATE FINANCIAL TRANSPARENCY FOR TAX EXEMPT CHARITIES AND CHURCHES!

Created by C.S. on August 18, 2015

The U.S. should mandate financial transparency for charities and churches similar to other countries. Due to the vague tax code, it’s easier for less scrupulous organizations to exploit a person’s desire to help or have faith. Is the CEO or pastor's salary $50,000/year or $500,000/year? If these organizations are tax-exempt and the billions of dollars that they collect are not going to the government to support the people, then citizens deserve to know how that money is spent. Financial transparency will 1) enable people to make informed decisions regarding the quality of the organization and 2) provide accountability/reduce frivolous spending since finances will be made public. Financial transparency will in no way threaten tax-exempt status, yet will increase quality and reduce fraud.
