Guns have not progressed for the last 50 years. They still use a mechanical system to fire the gun. If guns had an electronic and digital firing mechanism you could make them safer and prevent their use around areas like schools, shopping malls, theaters, and etc. You could also prevent guns from being used by individuals who did not legally purchase them.
It is about time we think outside the box and instead of just relying on laws and even more gun control we should explore the use of technology from biometrics, RFID tags, jamming signals to control the gun and the area that they can be used.
If we can send explorers to mars and develop stat-of-the art electronics we should be able to develop a 21st century gun for a legal owner.
