A knowledge of the the workings of the federal government being essential for citizens to be active and informed voters, the Department of education should mandate that civics be taught in all U.S. high schools, and that students graduate with an understanding of the functions, duties and responsibilities of the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches of our government.
Material should include study of the U.S. constitution, as well as the historical figures that have shaped our system of laws and government.
