Mandate that insurance companies cover one annual psychiatrist, therapist or counselor visit annually.

Created by A.B. on December 19, 2012

Just as insurance companies often cover an annual physical to assess the overall wellness of their customers, mandate that one visit to a psychiatrist, therapist or counselor be covered.

The professionals who are assessing everyone may be able to screen for & identify even a small population of potentially dangerous or unstable individuals & recommend treatment or additional visits.

In addition, this may improve the currently negative stigma around "seeing a professional" when someone feels overly depressed, anxious, violent, etc.

Insurance companies could use this information to refine their coverage plans & assist with developing more accurate profiles around patients with varying neurological conditions.

This will be a small but effective step towards mental health reform.
