The well-being of the patient is top priority. It is also understandable that the cost of a visit varies based on the needs of the patient. However, a medical bill can be a financial burden to the patient. Medical clinics should be required to provide an estimated cost (at least the cost before insurance adjustments) so the patient has an understanding of what to expect when walking in to the exam room. If it is determined additional evaluations and services are required that would alter the initial estimate, the patient should acknowledge this change before proceeding with the exam. We expect an up-front cost for vehicle maintenance, so why can’t we have the same level of expectations from the medical industry?
